Albany, NY -- Yesterday, John Tabacco received the official endorsement of the Independence Party of New York at an executive committee meeting in Albany, NY.
The Independence Party's State Chairman, Frank MacKay, said that the thousands of Independence Party members would be the deciding factor in tomorrow's election, stating that yesterday's vote is indicative that independents are supporting Tabacco in large numbers.
He stated: "Today, the State Executive Committee of the Independence Party voted to endorse John Tabacco to be our candidate for City Council from the 49th District. While we made this endorsement when it was unclear if he would be on the ballot or not, we knew he was the best candidate in the race. The consensus among independents is that this is the best chance an Independence Party member has ever had to get elected to the New York City Council and we're optimistic about his chances. John Tabacco is one of our own."
Upon receiving this important endorsement, Tabacco stated, " As a proud IP member, I share the ideals of all who put our community first and appreciate the support of Chairman MacKay and the endorsement of the New York Independence Party. As someone who has a long history of working with elected officials from all parties, you may be assured that I will always act in the best interest of the people and our city as your City Councilman. I'm truly honored to have not only the IP endorsement but the endorsement of Staten Island's Republican Party"
The Independence Party of New York has more than 360,000 members statewide and is often cited as the bridge to the state's 2.5 million independent voters.

Staten Island Republican's Sen. Andrew Lanza (R-Staten Island), Assemblyman Lou Tobacco (R-South Shore) and borough GOP chairman John Friscia sent the following letter to Republicans in the 49th Council District in support of John Tabacco.
Dear fellow Staten Islander,
We wanted to take a moment to talk to you about the upcoming Special Election for City Council. One candidate in the race, John Tabacco, embodies Republican philosophies, principles and ideology in virtually every sense. He's an independent fighter with a history of fighting for issues like lower taxes, public safety and good government. John is a write-in candidate in Tuesday's election and, in our view, is the candidate that best represents our party.
Last week a Republican State Supreme Court Justice, urged him not to give up, to stay involved in politics and remain active. We are so pleased that he is doing just that. We join the Justice in commending John's "zeal for public service," and in recognition of that spirit, we endorse him in the Special Election.
In Tuesday's election, the North Shore has a tremendous opportunity to make a statement. We have the chance to elect a candidate with the fiscal expertise necessary to handle the critical economic challenges that our community faces. John Tabacco was appointed to the NYS Pension Task Force by Assemblyman Lou Tobacco, and his father served NYC alongside State Senator Andrew Lanza's father Peter on the NYPD. As the son of a police officer and a lifelong community activist, John understands full well the need to keep our streets safe. In the City Council, he can fight to do just that.
We need another vocal advocate against tax increases to join Councilmen Oddo and Ignizio. John Tabacco embodies Republican sensibilities and independent ideas. On behalf of all the Republican elected officials on Staten Island, please write-in John Tabacco. We know that Staten Islanders can not afford to have their taxes raised yet again and that is why it is imperative that you write-in John Tabacco this Tuesday, February 24th.
Sen. Andrew Lanza Assemblyman Lou Tobacco GOP Chairman John Friscia
